NEW JERSEY — Hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has officially begun serving his 50-month federal prison sentence at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey, according to TMZ.

TMZ reports that Diddy was transferred to the low-security federal facility early Thursday morning and completed the check-in process shortly thereafter. The Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed his placement at Fort Dix, the same facility Diddy’s legal team had requested following his sentencing by Judge Arun Subramanian.

According to his attorneys, Fort Dix was considered the most suitable institution for Combs as it allows him to “address drug abuse issues” and “maximize family visitation and rehabilitative efforts.”

The 55-year-old music executive had previously been held at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn since his arrest in September 2024. His move to Fort Dix marks a significant change in conditions from the high-security facility where he had been awaiting trial.

Despite the lower security level, Diddy’s lawyer, Mark Geragos, told TMZ’s “2 Angry Men” podcast that the Bad Boy Records founder will remain a potential target behind bars, warning that “concerns about sexual assaults and violent attacks are real.”

During his sentencing hearing, Diddy’s team revealed he had already faced a violent threat while incarcerated — including an incident where another inmate allegedly pressed a knife to his neck.

The Bureau of Prisons currently lists Diddy’s projected release date as May 8, 2028, though that timeline may change based on conduct, credits, and program participation.

Combs, known for building one of hip-hop’s most influential empires through Bad Boy Entertainment, is expected to serve approximately two and a half years if he qualifies for early release.
