BULAWAYO – Controversial Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) secretary-general, Sengezo Tshabangu, is reportedly battling colon cancer and was recently flown to India for specialised treatment, a reliable source has revealed.

According to the source, Tshabangu was airlifted two weeks ago and is currently receiving medical care at a private facility in India. Details of his condition remain closely guarded, but the diagnosis has raised questions about his political future amid ongoing turmoil within the opposition party.

Tshabangu, who declared himself CCC interim secretary-general in 2023, sparked widespread controversy after recalling several opposition Members of Parliament and councillors, a move that deepened divisions within the party and weakened its representation in Parliament.

His political manoeuvres drew sharp criticism from CCC supporters, who accused him of being a ZANU-PF proxy. However, Tshabangu has consistently defended his actions, insisting he was acting to restore order and constitutionalism within the party.

The news of his illness comes at a time when CCC is grappling with internal restructuring efforts following Nelson Chamisa’s resignation from the party earlier this year. Observers say Tshabangu’s health crisis could further complicate the already fragile opposition landscape.

As of now, there has been no official statement from Tshabangu’s camp or the CCC leadership regarding his reported condition.
