Police have arrested a 34-year-old Harare man after he was found in possession of counterfeit United States dollar notes amounting to US$400.

The suspect has been identified as Admire Gweshegweshe of Epworth.

Confirming the arrest, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said the suspect was apprehended at a school in Kubatana, Epworth.

“Admire Gweshegweshe (34) was arrested at a school in Kubatana, Epworth, after being found in possession of counterfeit USD notes amounting to US$400 in US$20 denominations,” said Commissioner Nyathi.

He added that all the fake notes were bearing the same serial number, PH73531173C, raising suspicion and prompting the arrest.

“The suspect is being charged with possession of articles for criminal use,” Nyathi said.

Police said investigations are continuing to establish the source of the counterfeit notes and whether there are other people involved in the alleged offence.
