Harare — Zanu PF Mabvuku legislator and close ally of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Scott Sakupwanya, is set to mark his birthday with another high-profile international spectacle, with multi-Grammy award-winning American rapper Rick Ross expected to perform in Zimbabwe on 28 February 2026.
The US hip-hop star, whose real name is William Roberts II, confirmed the appearance through a video message shared on his Instagram account, announcing plans to travel to Zimbabwe for what he described as a “next-level” celebration hosted by Sakupwanya.
“Zimbabwe, I just got word I’m coming out rocking with my homie Scott,” Ross said in the clip. “The birthday bash is going to be next level, February 28. It’s going to be historic — we’re making history. It’s all about big moves, and my homie Scott makes big moves.”
Sakupwanya, who will be turning 47, has become known for staging lavish events that blend politics, business, and global entertainment. His association with high-profile international figures has frequently drawn public attention, positioning him as one of the ruling party’s most flamboyant and controversial personalities.
This will not be Rick Ross’s first appearance in Zimbabwe under Sakupwanya’s patronage. In 2022, the American rapper performed at the Harare International Conference Centre after being brought in through ROAR Entertainment, with reports at the time suggesting a performance fee of around US$200,000.
The Mabvuku MP has also previously hosted other global celebrities. In 2023, he facilitated a visit by American boxing legend and promoter Floyd Mayweather Jr., further cementing his reputation for using star power to elevate personal and political branding.
Sakupwanya’s proximity to the highest levels of power within Zanu PF and his public alignment with President Mnangagwa have made his activities a subject of national debate, particularly amid Zimbabwe’s broader economic challenges. Supporters view his events as projecting confidence and global relevance, while critics question the optics of conspicuous displays of wealth.
Details regarding the venue, ticketing, and local supporting acts for the February 2026 concert are yet to be formally announced. However, with Rick Ross already billing the event as “historic,” expectations are high that the show will rank among the most prominent international music events hosted in Zimbabwe in recent years.
