HARARE – A pedestrian was injured in a road traffic incident involving a vehicle reportedly driven by former Norton legislator Temba Mliswa near Harare Polytechnic on Tuesday, according to witnesses at the scene.

Details surrounding the incident remain limited, but bystanders said the vehicle, described as a Mercedes-Benz, was travelling along the busy stretch of road adjacent to the college when the collision occurred. Emergency services were alerted shortly afterwards, and the injured individual was attended to at the scene before being taken for medical assessment.

The extent of the pedestrian’s injuries has not yet been officially confirmed. Witnesses described the event as a distressing accident in an area that typically experiences heavy foot traffic from students and commuters.

There has been no immediate statement from Mliswa or his representatives regarding the incident. Police are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision, including road conditions, visibility, and pedestrian movement at the time.

Road safety advocates have frequently raised concerns about speeding and congestion along routes surrounding major educational institutions in Harare, where high volumes of both vehicles and pedestrians increase the risk of accidents.

More information is expected once authorities release an official report. In the meantime, many have expressed hope that the injured pedestrian will make a full recovery.
