A vocal supporter of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Levison Chambati, has urged Zimbabweans to stop calling for the President’s departure from office, describing such demands as a travesty against a good man.
Posting on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Chambati said the culture of blaming leaders instead of contributing to national development was counterproductive.
“To say ‘Mnangagwa must go’ is a travesty against a good man. It has become fashionable to demand that every President should go – as if leadership were a revolving door,” he posted.
Chambati drew parallels with the late President Robert Mugabe, saying those who once benefited from the Land Reform Programme later turned against him.
“Remember, during the Mugabe era, after he empowered us with land, the same voices shouted ‘Mugabe must go!’ Those who once claimed a white man would return to reclaim our land are now in desperate need of the same land. They have come to realize the true importance of the Land Reform Programme.”
He said President Mnangagwa had laid the foundation for a modern, self-reliant Zimbabwe, yet was facing similar calls for removal.
“And mark my words – even the one who comes after him will face the same chorus. Instead of pointing fingers, why not bring forward ideas and solutions to uplift our country? Government officials are human too – ordinary people facing the same challenges as everyone else. Even if your idea sounds unconventional, speak it out. You might just hold the key to our national transformation,” he wrote.
Chambati criticised educated citizens for failing to offer constructive input.
“It’s disheartening that after educating thousands of degree holders and professors, the loudest contribution some can make is ‘Mnangagwa must go.’ How sad. How small-minded.”
He concluded by calling for unity and support for the President’s vision.
“Zimbabweans, it’s time to rise above negativity. We have one of the best Presidents, the best policies, and a clear vision centered on black empowerment and national pride. Let’s unite behind progress – not politics.”
