Former Zimbabwean footballer Angirai ‘Durawall’ Chapo, who played as a defender for Dynamos Football Club and the national team, the Warriors, has died.

Memory Mucherahowa confirmed the news on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “My Captain Angirai Chapo is Nomore. RIP Skipper.”

Chapo joined Dynamos in 1984 after leaving cross-town rivals CAPS United, where he struggled for playing time under coach Obadiah Sarupinda. He was brought to Dynamos by Clayton Munemo and went on to captain the club during his career.

Nicknamed ‘Durawall’ for his defensive prowess, Chapo also represented Zimbabwe at the national level as a reliable defender and occasional defensive link man. After retiring from professional football, he worked at a mine in Gweru and briefly coached Shangani Mine Football Club in Division 1 of the ZIFA Southern Region in 2004.

Chapo’s legacy is remembered for his leadership on the pitch and his contribution to Zimbabwean football.
