Mission & Values

Since 2005, the mission of The Zimbabwe Mail has been to deliver clear, courageous, and insightful journalism that informs, empowers, and inspires.

— Tina Musonza, Editor-in-Chief

The Zimbabwe Mail is an independent news organisation committed to fearless, investigative journalism. We give a voice to the voiceless, hold power to account, and shine a light on the issues that matter most to Zimbabweans and the wider African continent.

Our independent ownership structure ensures we are free from political or commercial influence. The stories we cover, the investigations we pursue, and the perspectives we amplify are guided solely by our values – relentlessly, courageously, and without compromise.

Our Organisation

The Zimbabwe Mail’s journalism is underpinned by our unique governance and ownership structure, which guarantees editorial independence from outside influence, whether financial, political, or commercial.

Our organisation was founded with the vision of providing a truly independent platform for Zimbabwean news. All surplus financial returns are reinvested into the newsroom to ensure high-quality reporting and investigative journalism, rather than benefiting shareholders or private owners.

This structure ensures that our editorial decisions are always guided by journalistic integrity, public interest, and service to our readership.

Times Change, Our Values Don’t

Our commitment to truth, accountability, and independent reporting remains at the heart of everything we do. We believe in journalism that empowers citizens, strengthens democracy, and contributes to social and economic development.

Reader-Funded Journalism

The Zimbabwe Mail is powered by its global and local readership. Our supporters enable us to provide trustworthy reporting that is open and accessible to all. With no billionaire owners or shareholder pressures, we can investigate, challenge, and amplify stories without fear or favour.

You can support our work today, in whatever way suits you best – whether through one-time contributions or recurring support – helping us continue to deliver high-quality, independent journalism.
