HARARE — The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has confirmed receiving more than 300 applications for the vacant Warriors head coach position, with former Tottenham Hotspur and Norwich City manager Chris Hughton among the high-profile contenders.

The online application portal closed on Thursday, attracting interest from both local and international coaches eager to take charge of the national team.

Hughton, 66, boasts extensive managerial experience from the English Premier League, having led Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Norwich City. He also brings continental exposure, having coached the Ghanaian national team two years ago.

ZIFA is expected to announce the new Warriors head coach next week, as the football body races against time to prepare for the upcoming FIFA international break. The senior national team is scheduled to face Algeria and Qatar in friendly matches next month.

Zimbabwe will play Algeria in Saudi Arabia on 13 November, before facing Qatar four days later. The two fixtures form part of the Warriors’ build-up to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which kicks off in December. – ZBC
