THE financial sector’s elite are set to convene in Harare today for the fifth annual Capital Markets Awards, a ceremony dedicated to recognising the institutions and individuals driving the growth and sophistication of Zimbabwe’s financial landscape.

The event, hosted by Financial Markets Indaba in partnership with the Capital Markets Association of Zimbabwe (CMAZ), will take place this evening at the Hyatt Regency. It has solidified its reputation as the country’s premier celebration of excellence in the financial sector, serving as the sole dedicated platform for honouring those shaping Zimbabwe’s capital markets and fostering national economic growth.

A major highlight of the evening will be the honouring of renowned entrepreneur Strive Masiyiwa with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The award celebrates his enduring contribution to the growth, sophistication, and international relevance of Zimbabwe’s capital markets.

Mr Masiyiwa’s pioneering leadership, which includes establishing and listing influential enterprises and championing strong governance, dividend consistency, and investor confidence, has successfully expanded the depth and resilience of the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange.

His role as a major investor has significantly strengthened market capitalisation and liquidity, while his global footprint has positioned Zimbabwean companies as credible, scalable players on the international stage.

His legacy continues to inspire greater participation, innovation, and long-term value creation across the sector.

This year’s ceremony welcomes Samuel Matsekete, Group CEO of Old Mutual Zimbabwe, as the Guest of Honour. Attendees will also hear crucial insights from keynote speakers, including Grace Berejena, Acting CEO of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Zimbabwe (SECZim), and Justin Bgoni, CEO of the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE).

The awards uphold a rigorous evaluation process led by a specialist research team. Submissions are measured against clearly defined standards to ensure winners truly reflect the industry’s highest achievements. The core assessment framework covers performance, leadership, market influence, innovation, corporate responsibility, reputation, transparency, regulatory compliance, and broader contributions to capital-market development.
