A vibrant mix of musical genres will take centre stage at Calgary’s historic King Eddy on 3 December, where emerging performers from across Western Canada are set to deliver a free public showcase. Among the featured artists is Zimbabwean-born rapper KtheChosen, whose rise in the local music scene continues to attract attention.

The performers are participants in the National Music Centre’s Artist Entrepreneur West programme, a month-long initiative designed to equip emerging talent with practical skills, industry knowledge and resources to advance their careers. The programme brings together artists from across genres — a diversity KtheChosen says has been both inspiring and instructive.

“We’ve got quite a breadth of artists in this programme. It has been pretty eye-opening learning the different writing processes people have,” he told CTV News.

KtheChosen, who relocated from Zimbabwe to Calgary to pursue university studies, said the city’s warmth — both in climate and community — played a big role in drawing him in.

“I love how friendly people are here,” he said. “Being from Southern Africa, I was looking for sunshine, and with Calgary being the sunniest city, I figured this was the place to start off and explore.”

The King Eddy showcase marks the culmination of the artists’ month-long training, offering them an opportunity to present their craft to audiences while celebrating the rich musical diversity emerging from Western Canada.
