A Zimbabwean woman, identified as Angela Madzika, who worked aboard the Viking Star Ship, has died after reportedly jumping into the sea while the vessel was sailing between Crete, Greece, and Sicily, Italy.

According to a statement released by the cruise line, the incident occurred at around 11:30 a.m. on October 27. Despite ongoing search operations by Italian maritime authorities, Madzika’s body has not yet been recovered.

The company said it is cooperating fully with authorities and has chosen not to release further information, citing respect for the privacy of the crew member and her family.

While the official cause of the tragedy remains under investigation, unconfirmed reports suggest that Madzika may have taken her own life following personal distress. Sources familiar with the situation allege that her husband, whom she supported by working overseas, sold the home she had built in Zimbabwe and later remarried — events believed to have deeply affected her.

The Viking Star Ship management has expressed condolences to Madzika’s family and said it would provide updates “when appropriate and available.”

Authorities in Italy and the cruise line are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
