HARARE – Sources have exposed a high-stakes meeting between ZANU-PF provincial chairpersons and businessman Kudakwake Tagwireyi, revealing an alleged plan to remove Vice President Retired General Constantino Chiwenga from both the party and government.

According to insiders, each chairperson present had previously received US$100,000 and Land Cruisers from Tagwireyi. During the clandestine gathering, they reportedly plotted a vote of no confidence against Chiwenga at the upcoming ZANU-PF conference, citing a breakdown in relations and accusing the Vice President of betrayal.

The question of who would formally move the motion sparked debate. Tawanda Mukodza, Manicaland Youth Chairman and a participant in the failed “Tsholotsho Declaration” coup against former President Robert Mugabe, was selected—despite expressing fears for his safety.

Sources say the older chairpersons effectively hid behind him, instructing Mukodza to simply “disappear” after carrying out the motion. Jabulani Sibanda, former war veterans’ leader, was tasked with seconding it, asserting himself as the Matebeleland representative.

Political observers are questioning why the younger generation is being used as a shield for the politically powerful.

“If Chiwenga is indeed nothing, why hide behind Tawanda Mukodza? What are you afraid of?” one source asked.

The revelation exposes a dangerous web of political scheming within ZANU-PF, highlighting growing tensions between President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s loyalists and Chiwenga’s camp. Analysts warn that such manoeuvres could destabilise both the party and the government if exposed to the public.
