Warriors vice-captain Marshall Munetsi is facing a race against time to be fit for the 2025 AFCON finals after picking up a calf injury while playing for Wolverhampton Wanderers last week against Nottingham Forest.

The midfielder was ruled out of Monday’s match against Manchester United, and early signs suggest he could be out for a considerable spell.

Wolves’ medical team is still carrying out tests to determine the full extent of the damage, but head coach Rob Edwards told British media that Munetsi is expected to be sidelined for at least six weeks. Said Edwards:

“It’ll be weeks; I don’t know how many at the moment, but it’s looking like at least six weeks, I think.

“We just hope it does not stretch that long because we need every player at the moment.”

Munetsi is Zimbabwe’s most high-profile footballer, and his potential absence is a huge setback for the Warriors.

He is one of the team’s most reliable performers and has featured in Zimbabwe’s last three AFCON campaigns — 2017, 2019 and 2021.
