HARARE – Members of Parliament say they are worried over suspected rituals after something linked to voodoo practice was seen on the road leading to the Parliament building in Mt Hampden yesterday morning.
MPs took to the house to ask whether their safety is guaranteed but the Deputy Speaker assured them of their safety as the act could have been done by a mentally challenged individual.
Chiredzi Central MP Ropafadzo Makumire asked about their safety as MPs given the suspected rituals saying: “We would like to know whether as representatives, our lives are safe because there are some things that we have noticed, such as some witchcraft artefacts that were at the entrance. There was a cloth, which belonged to the other party (Zanu PF), and a clay pot. So, we want to know whether we are safe in this place.”
In response, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament said :
“From what you have seen, how can you say you are not safe? Because if we look at those things from social media, the way we have seen it, we can see that it has been done by a mentally challenged person.
They do all those things everywhere. So, how is it going to get your lives into danger? Just because it has been placed there, what about everywhere else where it has been done? Who is not safe?”
