Desperate Bafana Bafana coach envy of Warriors having Khama Billiat

Johannesburg – While Bafana Bafana’s misery in front of goal continues, head coach Shakes Mashaba admits he wishes he had a player like Mamelodi Sundowns’ Khama Billiat in his squad, due to his finishing abilities.

Billiat, 26, is Zimbabwean.

Billiat helped his country to top spot in Group L after qualification for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be held in Gabon next January.

The 66-year-old mentor has hinted that finishing off the clear-cut chances is still a big challenge in South African football and it cost Bafana heavily in their AFCON qualifying campaign.

Bafana played to a 1-all stalemate against Mauritania at the Mbombela stadium last Friday in a failed campaign in clinching a spot in next year’s continental spectacle.

Mashaba said that the South African media is solely focused on Bafana’s poor results instead of focusing on the main problem in the country: scoring goals.

Mashaba also hinted that if he had a player like Billiat in his team, Bafana could have been unstoppable considering the number of chances they created.

“There’s only one problem in our team and no one is asking us how we are going to solve that problem,” said Mashaba.

“We have scoring problems, we created more than 10 scoring chances in the last game and also went on to miss a penalty, but no one is saying anything about that.

“Those are the problems we are sitting on at the moment and we are building very well from the back in every game.

“But what else can we do? All leading goal scorers in our league are foreigners and if we could have that Mamelodi Sundowns player Khama Billiat…

“I mean if I could have Billiat in my team and getting all those chances we could have been very far.

“But I’m not saying that our players are bad, no they are really trying their best as well.” – Sport 24
