Two years ago it was reported by the British media that Heather Muleya (Gatawa) “a drunken nurse” had “abandoned her elderly patients saying she was not a “bum cleaner”.

She “drank and slept on duty and once threatened a pregnant colleague,” the Daily Express newspaper reported in February 2013.

Nehanda Radio understands tragedy struck last week when friends and relatives did not hear from her for several days.

Visits to her house yielding nothing as no one could access the property. It was then that a family member requested police help to access the property. Heather was found dead inside the house on Sunday.

Although no cause of death has been officially given speculation will no doubt focus on her past battles with alcohol.

Heather faced a string of charges over her time at two Bupa care homes in Maidenhead, Berks, between October 2008 and September 2009.

“She was caught reeking of booze at the Holyport Lodge a day after refusing to give pain relief to a patient there. She was moved to St Mark’s Lodge where she was caught drinking and napping at work.

She once refused to administer vital pain relief, saying it was like giving a patient a dummy, and claimed care duties were beneath her.

She told a Nursing and Midwifery Council hearing in London: “I could not perform the duties of the BBC. This is nursing slang for British Bum Cleaner.”

“Asked by a colleague to tidy up, she said: “It’s a good job you’re pregnant or I’d deal with you in a

nother way. Muleya admitted refusing painkillers but denied all other charges. She was cleared of leaving a key in a drug cupboard but found guilty on all other counts,” the Daily Express newspaper reported at the time. – Nehanda Radio
