Zimbabweans react angrily at Grace wheelchair remark

HARARE – Some Zimbabweans have reacted angrily on social networking sites following remarks by First Lady Grace Mugabe that her husband will continue to rule Zimbabwe even if he’s in a wheelchair or blind.

Most of them are calling upon the president to retire claiming that he won’t be able to fully run Zimbabwe if he is confined to a wheelchair due to old age.

On the other hand, Zanu PF activists have backed the first lady while several medical practitioners believe that there is nothing wrong with being ruled by a blind or wheelchair-bound president as long as he or she is sane.

Mrs. Mugabe made these remarks at the weekend when she addressed villagers in Murehwa, Mashonaland East province, as part of her nation-wide ‘Meet the People Tour’ in which she is distributing goodies and farming implements.

MDC-T deputy spokesperson, Thabitha Khumalo, said Mr. Mugabe should retire and take care of his greatgrand children and all those that need him at home.

But Zanu PF activist, Gadzira Chirumhanzu, said Mrs. Mugabe’s remarks are an indication that President Mugabe is liked by most Zimbabweans.

Ruth Labode, MDC-T legislator, who was speaking as a private medical practitioner, told Studio 7 there is nothing wrong with President Mugabe ruling while in a wheelchair or blind.
