Breezy fever shakes South Africa’s People’s Park

Durban -The rain didn’t stop Chris Brown fans from queuing as early as 4pm for his concert at the Moses Mabhida People’s Park last night.

Dressed to impress, hoping to catch the eye of the newly single singer, Breezy fans clamoured to get as close to the stage as possible.

The Grammy award-winner and multi-platinum singer-songwriter arrived in South Africa on Wednesday night for two sell-out performances. He performed at the Dome in Joburg on Thursday night.

His second performance was in Durban last night. It is part of his world tour to celebrate the release of his sixth studio album, titled X, which sees Brown team up with artists such as Usher, Lil Wayne, Nicki Manaj, Rick Ross and Tyga.

Brown said: “I want everyone to take a journey with me through X. We’re going to experience the highs and lows, the love and pain.”

This is Brown’s second time in the country. He had sold-out performances for his 2012 Carpe Diem SA Tour.

His opening act last night was August Alsina, a 22-year-old New Orleans hip-hop singing sensation.

Alsina got the crowds going with his hits, including Kissing on my Tattoos, I Luv this S**t, No Love and Ghetto, which had the audience screaming for more.

He later tweeted: “South Africa, I can’t thank you enough. My first time here and you welcomed me with open arms.”

But the undeniable star of the night, Brown, had fans feverish. He performed a number of songs, including New Flame, Yeah3x and Ayo. His most popular by far was the international hit Loyal, which the crowd sang along to.

Despite his past slips – in 2009 he pleaded guilty to assaulting his then girlfriend Rihanna and was sentenced to five years’ probation and six months’ community service – fans praised his performance.

@mbalizetwo tweeted “I Can Die Now. Thank You @AugustAlsina @chrisbrown”.

@ElaineBreezy tweeted “Loved wen @AugustAlsina sed he don’t care wat d media says but @chrisbrown is a legend! Made me so happy #XTourSouthAfrica”, while @LieslFrankson tweeted “Feeling truly blessed to have seen the talent that is @AugustAlsina & @chrisbrown tonight best f****** concert ever #XTOURLIVE”

Brown was brought here by promoters Glen Netshipise (Glen21 Entertainment) Sobukwe Jali (Jailbird) and Thato Segaole of Vertex Evens.
