HARARE – Pritchard Zimondi has been found guilty for the murder of his former girlfriend Monalisa Chinomana and he will be sentenced on Friday.
It is precisely 2 years and 8 months since Monalisa mate her brutal death at the hands of her former boyfriend in Chitungwiza and the court has finally put a cap on the murder case finding Zimondi guilty as charged.
Justice Hlekani Mwaera found Zimondi guilty of murder with constructive intent at the close of trial.
She noted that the defence case was being woven as the trial progressed and found numerous inconsistencies in Zimondi’s testimony.
She, however, found that the state witness had largely been credible and gave consistent testimonies.
Mr Norman Mugiya in mitigation placed the youthfulness of his client who murdered Monalisa when he was 21 and has been in custody for almost 3 years as sufficient grounds for giving him a short term of imprisonment.
Representing the state, Mr Editor Mavuto, however, urged the court to impose life imprisonment given the brutal nature of the murder.
For Monalisa’s father and sister, the pain of losing their dearest can never be compensated but the death penalty will meet the justice of the case.
