Robbers blow up school safe and get away with $10

JOHANNESBURG – Robbers in Zimbabwe have blown up a safe at a school in the country’s second city of Bulawayo, but only found 10 dollars inside.

The thieves may have been hoping to find a lot more, after recent media reports alleging state school headmasters are charging parents thousands of dollars in levies.

The safe was in an office at the school used by the local registrar.

The state-run Chronicle says there were eight men in the gang who targeted the school, which is in Bulawayo’s Emakhandeni suburb.

The paper says a security guard fled when the gang scaled the school wall.

Attacks using explosives on safes or ATMs are rare in Zimbabwe and this one certainly didn’t pay off.
